The concept of a white kitchen is a contentious one for some, but for others, there’s nothing else that can deliver the same level of crisp, clean, and serene sophistication in the cooking and dining space. However, the interior design must be managed with care or the end result can come off bland or too polarizing from the rest of the home. To ensure that you end up with the idyllic vision that you have for your kitchen, we have laid out some ideas that we think you’ll adore for your Vancouver abode.
Four White Kitchen Interior Design Ideas and Concepts to Consider for Your Greater Vancouver BC Home
White with Wood Contrast
In this example from our Vancouver interior design firm’s single family home portfolio, we created an eye-catching contrasting effect for a white kitchen by integrating a dark wood to delineate kitchen bar seating from the countertop. To complement the bar seating space (and flooring) a wood wraparound crown was used to create visual separation between the white cooking area and the white ceiling. This prevents the concern over having an overly “white-washed” aesthetic in the kitchen which can make it feel cold and unwelcoming.
Traditional Twist
In the past, white kitchen interior design generally conveyed the rustic cottage style, but going all in on the concept is certainly not for everyone, especially in contemporary homes. That being said, you can still borrow elements from a vintage white cottage kitchen while maintaining a modern look and feel. In this example (image above) from our portfolio, take note of the retro range hood and gas stove, the framed cabinet panels, and traditional tile backsplash. These elements work well to create a cozy feel without making the kitchen feel as if it belongs deep in the countryside.
White Marble
Make a bold statement in a white kitchen with white marble flooring and an all-encompassing island countertop base. It creates a Romanesque aesthetic that works well in a contemporary white kitchen. It may look expensive (which is part of the point) but your interior designer can work within your budget by considering a variety of materials that can replicate the look of marble, such as cultured marble in addition to quartz, quartzite, and granite.
Dramatic Backsplash
As alluded to above, some don’t like a white kitchen because without care it can come off as being a bit bland. You can mitigate this concern in one swoop by installing a large and dramatic backsplash that draws the eye away from monochromatic white space.
The above concepts regarding white kitchen interior design offer a great place to start. For a truly customized solution, you will want to consult with an interior design firm near you.
